confidence in this product.
For years, smart homeowners all over the world have been discovering the advantages of heating
and cooling with geothermal energy. In fact, your home is right on top of a major source of
energy; your own backyard.
No matter where you live, the underground temperature stays relatively constant all year,
even though outdoor temperatures vary widely. Geothermal systems harness this from the earth
and carry it to the geothermal unit, which (through a process much the same as your refrigerator)
compresses the extracted heat to a high temperature and delivers it to your home. When cooling,
the process is simply reversed, and the resulting cool, dehumidified air is delivered to your
home. In some locations, direct well water is used, replacing the closed loop system.

Four Basic Geothermal Energy Sources
Closed-loop systems circulate a water-based
solution through a "loop" of small-diameter, underground pipes. Closed-loop
systems can be installed horizontally, vertically or in a pond. Open-loop systems
use an existing water well. Regardless of whether the system is open or closed,
heat is transferred to or from the home to provide year-round comfort, no matter
what the outdoor temperature is.

Horizontal Loops
These are often considered when adequate land surface is available.
Pipes are placed in trenches that range in length from 100 to 400 feet. Click

Vertical Loops
These are the ideal choice when available land surface is limited. Drilling equipment
is used to bore small-diameter holes from 75 to 300 feet deep. Click on the
loop diagram to see it enlarged. |

Pond (Lake) Loops
These are very economical to install when a body of water is available, because
excavation costs are virtually eliminated. Coils of pipe are simply placed
on the bottom of the pond or lake. Click on the loop diagram to see it enlarged. |

Open loops
These use groundwater as a direct energy source. In ideal conditions, an open-loop
application can be the most economical type of geothermal system. Click on

Geothermal systems are extremely energy efficient since they only need a relatively constant,
renewable energy source, and use it for heating, air conditioning and hot water.
Geothermal systems circulate a water-based solution through a "loop" of small diameter,
underground pipes. When heating, this solution absorbs heat from the ground which results
in a small amount of electricity being used to power the pump, compressor and fan. Geothermal
systems typically deliver up to four times more energy than they consume, so you save money
on your monthly energy bills when compared to other types of heating and cooling systems.
WHY IS WATERFURNACE THE SMARTER CHOICE?
Simply put, a WaterFurnace geothermal heating and cooling system is:
1. an investment in affordable comfort and,
2. an investment in the preservation of our environment for generations to come.
The secret of a WaterFurnace system's clean, efficient operation is the earth's ability to
store heat. In fact, 47 percent of the sun's energy that reaches our planet is absorbed into
the earth. That's 500 times more energy than all of humanity would need in a year! And it's
an unlimited source of energy.
Installing a WaterFurnace system in a typical home is the environmental equivalent of planting
750 trees-or taking two cars off the road. That's because WaterFurnace systems don't burn
fossil fuels, and they don't emit carbon dioxide, which has been associated with the greenhouse
effect and global warming.

The Geothermal Heat Pump Consortium says current geothermal systems save more than 14 million
barrels of crude oil every year. And because the only energy needed to run geothermal systems
is a small amount of electricity, they reduce the need for new coal-powered electric power
plants. Result? Cleaner air and less acid rain.
A MAJOR ADVANTAGE: FOUR TIMES THE EFFICIENCY
A WaterFurnace system uses the Earth's thermal properties in conjunction with electricity to
provide unprecedented efficiency. For every unit of electricity the system uses, it provides
four units of heating energy, giving a geothermal system a 400 percent efficiency rating,
on average. These numbers can translate into real savings on your utility bills year-round.
The WaterFurnace Advantage
When you invest in a WaterFurnace system, you can be assured that you're receiving the
highest-quality, best-performing heating and cooling system available. Here are some of the
benefits of WaterFurnace ownership.
Lower Operating Costs
A WaterFurnace system operates more efficiently than ordinary heating and air conditioning
systems-30 to 60 percent more efficiently, in most cases.
Comfort
Because a WaterFurnace system uses the relatively stable temperature of the earth as an
energy source, you're assured of constant, even winter heating and better humidity control
in summer.

|
Safety
With a WaterFurnace system, there are no flames, no flues and no odors. There's no danger
of combustion, fire or carbon monoxide poisoning, either. What you get is safe, reliable
operation year after year.
Clean Operation
A WaterFurnace system minimizes environmental threats linked to fossil-fuel burning, including
acid rain, air pollution and the greenhouse effect.
Quiet Operation
A WaterFurnace system is designed and manufactured to be exceptionally quiet. It will run
as quietly as your refrigerator or freezer.
Flexibility
A WaterFurnace system provides heating, central air conditioning and hot water, all from the
same compact unit.
Economical Water Heating
Water heating can be a significant energy expense. A WaterFurnace system can reduce the high
cost of water heating by as much as 66 percent.

Good Looks
The completely self-contained indoor WaterFurnace system needs no noisy, unsightly outside
condensing unit. Your neighbors won't have any cause for complaint.
Great Warranties
In the unlikely event of a service problem, WaterFurnace systems are backed by the industry's
best 10-year parts and labor warranty.
